Fixed Metal Braces

These are the standard and most common type of braces.

Traditional Metal-Wired Braces sometimes known as "Train Tracks" are the most common type of braces for children although they are also used by adults.

Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. With metal braces, you have the option of adding coloured elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colourful smile.

Fixed Metal Braces are the standard braces, and are available free-of-charge under the NHS for qualifying patients (based on the index of Orthodontic Treatment (IOTN)) under 18 years of age & exempt adults and at a reduced cost under the NHS for qualifying adult patients.

During your consultation you will be assessed to determine whether you are eligible for treatment under the NHS. This is done using a set of measurements known as the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN). You can read more about IOTN here.

There is usually a 2 - 3 months delay in commencing treatment as ‘prior approval for funding’ needs to be obtained from the NHS.

Removable Braces

Also a standard and very common type of braces.

Fixed Metal Braces

These braces are ‘removable’ for easy cleaning and are worn with some ‘baby teeth’ present in the mouth.

‘Functional appliance’ is a removable brace that works on the upper and lower teeth at the same time.

Removable braces, are available free-of-charge under the NHS for qualifying patients (based on the index of Orthodontic Treatment (IOTN)) under 18 years of age & exempt adults and at a reduced cost under the NHS for qualifying adult patients.

Clear Fixed Braces

The clear alternative to fixed metal braces.

Clear Braces
Clear Braces Clear Braces Clear Braces

Clear braces are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. Due to their cost, they are available only on a private basis.

Clear braces can greatly reduce the visual impact of your braces as they are visually less prominent and blend in with the natural colour of the teeth.

Clear braces are an attractive alternative for many adult and older teenage patients as they offer a very acceptable aesthetic solution while getting great results.

Self-ligating Braces

Advanced braces that don't need rubber rings and archwires.

Self ligating braces are a more modern alternative to traditional fixed metal braces.

Self-ligating technology remove the need for ligatures, the elastic bands that were used to hold the wire in your braces.

This innovation has major advantages, it is claimed that they can help your teeth move faster, make your braces easier to clean and eliminate the hassle of stained elastics.

These braces are claimed to be more comfortable and are supposed to reduce treatment times because the wires don't need to be removed at each appointment.

Lingual Appliances

The new generation of braces placed behind the teeth.

Lingual Appliances
Lingual Appliances Lingual Appliances Lingual Appliances

A Lingual appliance is a brace placed behind the teeth, making them invisible to other people. No one will ever know that you are wearing them unless you tell them!

They are created using state of the art technology and are completely customised to the shape of your teeth and to your dental situation.

Lingual appliances can be a quick option if only your front teeth require straightening, or if you have had orthodontic treatment in the past. They are also suited for more complex cases too.

Aligners

Teeth straightening with clear, nearly invisible removable braces.

Treatment consists of a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners that you change every two weeks for the next set of aligners.

Each aligner is individually manufactured for your teeth. As you replace each aligner, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final position prescribed by your orthodontist.

The aligners are comfortable and less visible, they are also removable, letting you eat and drink normally.
